Finding Healing

by Stephanie Cavender

Their program is not a diet, not a quick fix. It’s aimed to teach you skills to reprogram your habits. Today I feel perfect. I take NUMEROUS supplements daily, try to eat mindfully, and control my stress. So many of the tools I learned to heal myself came from Katy and Dr. Harden. Dr. Harden has been a thought leader on “functional medicine” well before you heard about it. Although she is a well-known OB/GYN physician in our community, her true gift is to help people navigate health through common sense practices.

Reversing Diabetes

Bernadette Guerra

I’d been doing things the same way for years and trying to fight diabetes with medication only. That was not working for me. I contacted Dr. Harden and Katy and decided to start their program. I didn’t know if I could go through with it because it became clear to me that this was not a “diet,” but a complete lifestyle change. This program really worked for me and changed my life. I began to lose weight, but the real success was in the way I felt and the way I began to control my diabetes. I had more energy and just felt better in general. I looked forward to our walks, and the more my A1C numbers and weight declined, the more motivated I became to continue this lifestyle I had been introduced to. Not only did I avoid having to take a third medication, but I was able to reduce the quantity of insulin I was injecting every day. Yes, it was hard to give up some of the foods that I had been accustomed to eating, but the tradeoff was well worth it. After my first grandson was born in 2016, I had the strength and energy to spend a great deal of time with him, which I certainly would not have had if I hadn’t started the program!

Optimizing Health & Burning Fat

Cathy Bohne

Unfortunately, I did not grow up in a household where healthy food was on hand. I figured if I worked out, I would be thin. Therefore, I continued running and working out throughout college and into my 30s. Once I started working with Katy and Dr. Harden, they diagnosed me as “skinny fat.” Although I was on the thinner side, I did not have the muscle I could have. Katy put me on a meal plan that ensured I was incorporating two fruits, at least five vegetables, and five servings of protein daily. As I followed my daily meal plan, writing everything down each day, the weight started to fall off, but more importantly, fat turned into muscle. The more amazing discovery for me was how much I started to just feel better. I slept better at night and had more energy during the day. My headaches went away, and I no longer had achy joints in my wrists, knees, and shoulders. I also learned the importance of drinking half my body weight in the number of ounces of water a day. This increase in water helped my skin clear up and transform into more youthful-looking skin. I realized that not only did healthy food taste good, but healthy food was healing!!!
